- So in my physics class we are currently studying waves. Yesterday I gave my students a homework problem where they had to make calculations about a giant ocean wave that was created by an earthquake and predict what would happen if that wave hit a city on the coast… and then there was an earthquake in Japan last night… and now footage of the tsunami in Japan is all over the news… and also today there were tsunami warnings here in California. Perhaps I should be more careful with the homework I give my students!
- I learned this week that Florence + The Machine will be play at the Greek Theater in Berkeley this June. I am super duper excited for that.
- Hot Tub Time Machine. I heard it was hilarious. It was funny, but it definitely did not live up to expectations.
- I just noticed, as I sit here at my kitchen table typing this, that we still have boxes sitting around from when we moved into this house. We moved in August. Yikes. But then again, we still haven’t hung anything on our walls so it’s not really that surprising. I suppose that’s what happens when you are insanely busy.
- Upcoming in the next week: a bachelorette party and a trip to Los Angeles with 100 students. Which do you think will be the most trouble?
the scientist

“The Scientist” came up on one of my Pandora stations today and I remembered how much I love this song. Plus the whole “backwards storytelling” music video is crazy and amazing. You can watch it below on YouTube.
I love how a certain song or album perfectly captures a feeling or a moment in time. Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head, which features “The Scientist,” instantly transports me back to my freshman year in college. It will forever remind me of my friend Jeremy, with whom I have unfortunately lost touch in the past couple of years. It’s a beautiful song – enjoy.
florence + the machine

I’m obsessed. I’ve been listening to the album Lungs from Florence + The Machine on repeat for the past couple of days. I first heard Flo’s cover of Addicted to Love a couple weeks ago and I was intrigued. I started listening to some of her other songs and found Cosmic Love, of which I simply cannot get enough. You can listen to it on her site or on MySpace.
Lungs is an amazing album and I highly recommend it. Also, Flo has a song on the Eclipse Soundtrack – Heavy In Your Arms – which is also great.
