pescadero state beach

Many people who live outside of California don’t realize that not all California beaches are created equal. Here in northern California, our beaches are pretty rocky. Even if there is a good sandy spot, the weather is usually too chilly on the coast to really enjoy it.
For example, Pescadero State Beach. We stopped by following our visit to Harley Farms.
Don’t get me wrong – the beach was beautiful. But I had to pull on a sweatshirt just so I could snap a few photos. Here are a few of my favorites:

Harley Farms has been on my “bay area must dos” list (remember, I love lists) for quite some time now. With my mother in town for the week, I thought this would be the perfect time to make a trip down to Pescadero and spend a day at the goat farm.
We took the two-hour tour that included a history of the farm, up-close and personal moments with the goats in the pastures, a walk-through of the feeding and milking areas, cheese-making highlights in the dairy, and of course a taste test! It was a lot of fun and we ended up with much more cheese than I had planned on buying.
My Recommendations
Tour: Wear closed-toed shoes and watch where you step. You’re going to step in goat poop regardless, but if you’re not careful you might get pooped on. If you see a goat start to squat, move quickly.
Cheese: Chevre with cranberry and walnuts. To. Die. For.
